Bacteriostatic Water

Bacteriostatic Water is a sterilized water for injection, most notably characterized by the addition of 0.9% benzyl alcohol as a bacteriostatic agent.

Bacteriostatic Water is a sterile water for injection containing 0.9% benzyl alcohol. It is not a drug for treating diseases; its main functions and uses are as follows: • Dissolving and diluting drugs: Primarily used to dissolve and dilute multiple or single doses of lyophilized powders (such as peptides, growth hormones, etc.) or concentrated drugs into injectable liquid dosage forms. • Inhibiting bacterial growth: The 0.9% benzyl alcohol added to the water has preservative and antibacterial properties, preventing bacterial growth in ampoules or vials during repeated drug extraction. • Extending drug shelf life: Compared to ordinary sterile water (which must be used immediately after opening), bacteriostatic water allows for repeated extraction and use of the same dissolved drug under aseptic conditions, maintaining a sterile environment within the vial for a certain period.
